The PK 22 Chair was originally designed between 1955-56 by Danish designer Poul Kjaeholm. The PK 22 Chair embodies the work of Kjaeholm, which was characterized by its understated elegance, clean lines and remarkable attention to detail. The steel frame of the PK 22 Chair originates from another design, the PK 25 Chair. The PK 22 Chair differs in design because its structure is divided into separate elements due to design improvements and in order to be more economical. This chair slightly resembles Mies van der Rohe’s infamous “Barcelona Chair”, but is much more simplistic in its design. The PK 22 Chair consists of a stretched leather or woven cane seat, and is supported by 4 satin-brushed stainless steel spring legs, which are attached to the bottom of the seat. Since it’s creation, the PK 22 Chair gained immediate commercial and critical success, and launched Kjaeholm’s career as a world-renowned furniture designer. Today, designers still marvel at the PK 22 Chair’s simple, yet thoughtful construction, which allows any design enthusiast an easy way to incorporate an iconic piece of design into any modern living space.
